Turn Your To-Do List Into A Ta-Da List
September 27, 2007
Are you constantly making ‘to do’ lists, just to find them unfinished by the end of the day? Do you add more things to your list in a day that you accomplish? If you’re like a lot of people, you’ll convince yourself that this time you’ll finish everything on your list, only to fail again at the end of the day.
Consider these points:
** You may not have allotted enough time to get the list accomplished the right way: Be generous in your time estimates for all of your projects. You’ll feel much better when you finish your list and can start on another, rather than not finishing the first one.
** You may get side-tracked with things that you are adding to the list instead of focusing on the chore at hand: Start a separate list for those items and prioritize them when the first list is done.
** You may have added too many things to the list: try splitting your list into several smaller ones.
** Not everyone is a ‘do list’ person: check out some other options for organizing your chores.
And as crazy as it may sound, the name of your list may have something to do with your attitude in accomplishing everything on it. Personally, I do quite well with a to-do list. However, many of my clients do better with something more positive: Achieve today, Goal for the day, Plan for Today, etc.
If something as simple as changing the name of your list works for you, go for it! It’s what’s on the list and how far you succeed with it that counts. It’s the amount of pride at getting the job done and the amount of contentment you feel with your surroundings that you are concerned about, not the name of your list.
Great post, Jan and welcome.
I changed the name of my master to-do list to Great Ideas list and I found that changed things completely for me 🙂
