The Experiment: Clutter Hack for Dishes – Update

hammertime_1Well, I’m glad to tell you that the experiment is a success!
Sort of.
My hope was that every one would wash their dishes when they were done with them and that I would awaken to a sparkling kitchen every morning. Wishful thinking, I know. Back to reality.
Reality is that habits don’t change that easily. My youngest still leaves his dishes on the coffee table and my oldest still leaves them in his room, but since there’s only one set per person they don’t stay there long enough to get nasty.
Now there are only a few dishes at a time on the counter or in the sink and it’s extremely manageable. Not perfect, but good enough. Good enough that I got a nice new dish rack to put them in when we wash them.

I did something similar to this during the summer. I assigned each kid a “special” cup that was theirs. No more reaching into the cupboard for a fresh clean up 100 times a day. It was really aggrevating to serve dinner and not have any clean cups….
Hmm, I may whip out my sharpie and write their names on the sides (or bottom) of my correlle. (It easily removes with a dry erase marker on non-porous surfaces. So, no harm, no foul.
    Thanks for the tip.
