Take the Guilt Out of Organizing

rocksI think the most overwhelming and frustrating part of organizing my messy home is that I can’t seem to stay focused on one space.

Oh, I’ll tell myself that I’m not going to overwhelm myself this time and I’m going to stick to just the desk. Well, as I’m clearing off the random CD’s and taking them to the bedroom, I notice my CD collection is all over the place and it makes me feel the need to straighten that as well. No, stick to the desk.

Hmmm…guilt.

And of course, there’s the stack of books to put back into the bookshelf – which is filled with books that I really should have taken to the thrift store already. Should I do that now? No, the desk.

A little more guilt.

And then there are the random bills scattered on my desk. Well, that’s easy – they go in my planner. Which is now bursting at the seams and needs weeding out.

I really hate guilt. Why do I seem to be such a glutton for it?

I finally gave myself permission this last weekend to just focus on the desk and leave the other things alone. With no guilt.

And I managed to get the kitchen table, too. And I told myself that it’s ok to leave the other things undone until next weekend. I’m sure I’ll have to tell myself that every weekend, but that’s ok. Simply not feeling that guilt over not having an immaculate home and not getting everything done at once is a relief.

Always keep in mind (especially with a large family) that it’s never going to be done. [LG]Here’s the desk I’d love to have![/LG]And that’s ok.
It’s a process.
A way of life.
No one has arrived.
No guilt.
