Lists Are Your Friends

All Out Of ListI can’t remember anything any more,” said one of my clients. “None of us can,” I told her. And it’s true. And that’s why lists are so helpful.

Here are some of lists I personally find useful; I’m sure you’ll have others of your own.

  • To-Do Lists
  • Someday/Maybe List (things I might want to do – but not now)
  • Shopping Lists – so I can remember what I need, and avoid the clutter caused by buying things I don’t need
  • Books to Read, Movies to See, Music to Check Out on iTunes
  • Books I’ve Already Read (and how I felt about them)
  • Travel Packing List
  • Blog Ideas List
  • So where do you keep your lists? If you prefer computer-based options, you can use simple text files or spreadsheets; there are also many programs designed specifically for tracking such things. If you prefer paper and pen, there’s a huge range of notepads, notebooks, and journals. And some people find a white board is the perfect answer.

So pick your approach and give your memory a break; get those lists out of your head!

I keep my lists on the memo application on my smart phone. As things come to mind I just enter it right away because my phone is pretty much always within reach. I also have wishlists for myself, husband and children. Not necessarily big items, just things that i’m looking for if I come across any big sales or good deals. Keeps me from standing there thinking, “I know I need something… now what was it!”

I use Gmail draughts for movie lists.

Gmail tasks (now I don’t have to load RTM into every browser I use) for task things to do.

      Google Docs for Packing Lists.

I do my grocerys online, and have a regular purchase list. For everything else, I just write / pick up a gmail draught in my mobile phone.

My system of sticky notes at work has morphed into something interesting. I keep a binder open on my desk at all times. I have several sections for the different aspects of my job – projects, blogging, site banners, information, etc. I keep my daily list of regular to-do’s on the left of the open section and blank notepaper to the right. I used to make my to-do lists on this paper, but found it annoying to always have scribble marks on it from getting things done. So I started attaching small sticky notes to it in the order of importance. This way I can move items around and simply toss them when they are finished. Nice and neat. 🙂

I have an organizer that I made into a purse but the zipper broke so I have not used it and I so can tell….It had everything in it and it was always with me since it was my purse. Looking to find a replacement soon!

I have found a great program that lets me make lists and I can call to hear or have my list texted to me. It also has a calendar which will send you reminders and it will color code all persons in your family and you can have reminders of appointments etc texted or emailed to any family member you have on your list, The best part it is free!

It came in handy when doing my gift shopping and I forgot what size of pants my son needed, so I called listened and grabbed the size he needed and I was on my way. This wonderful free program is Cozi.

There is also a journal where you can jot down interesting things that happened that you do not want to forget and want to share with family and friends if you decided to use the webpage that also is part of the program. I just keep track of things in the journal that I want to put in a scrapbook but do not have time to do at the moment. Like funny stories about family. I did download and love the photo collage screensaver.

So if you are wanting to make lists as I love to do, try Cozi.com. I have under shopping my home project list, Kids Gift List, Adults Gift List, I seperate them out, as I work on the kids list first then the adults. Also my grocery list, and wholesale store list. There are some other features that I have not checked out but this is the best find of 2010 in my book! Since I can not keep track of lists or my memory! LOL!
