new to the site. do you have tips on how to do an intervention for someone who is dangerously cluttered and needs help? preferably without losing them as a friend…if you don’t have that, i’d like to see that on the site.

Obviously, I won’t be addressing anything here in the comments, but this does give me plenty of ideas for future posts and new features to add.

Cheap organizing ideas. All the real nice organizing things are great but I can’t afford them and it makes me feel a little stuck.

Last night I found this website and have found myself wanting to come back all day today! What I would really love to see is the following–in no particular order:
1. A series of show-and-tell photos. Each expert person would take a photo of his/her day planner or similar system, their calendar, their bedroom closet, kitchen cupboards, pantry and medicine cabinet if applicable. Then on each photo, a line with wording to explain what is in the closet/cupboards so the “nit-noid” details are not left up for us to figure out. It would be GREAT to see how experts tackle the stuff they write about. It would be best if people could do this with no names, as there shouldn’t be a competition, but this should be an “educational show-and-tell.” Remember, it isn’t enough to see boxes of things in a closet or see a certain order in a room–those of us who are REALLY wanting to know more, want to know what is in those items–understanding the whole set-up is important!
2. Many times when organizing one’s life, we hear that we should collect together our collections and display them creatively. I want to learn how to arrange things decoratively–but info on that is hard to find. Tell me, someone, please, how to arrange accessories and collections. I know the rule of 3s–but other than that, I struggle with arranging things. I see photos of very attractive closets and know mine is neat, but not exactly beautiful. I want beautiful, creative, organized and FABULOUS closets and to get there I need design info, I think.
3. Someone out there has a system for keeping their own house clean by doing certain things every day of the week. I would like to read several people’s ideas on this. It seems that way back in the “dark ages” women washed clothes on one day, ironed the next, cleaned certain things on another day, etc., and then they didn’t have to do IT ALL on the weekend. Surely someone out there has perfected a system!
4. Toothbrush/toothpaste problem: Toothbrushes left on a counter in bathroom get more germy studies prove, so say I take the toothbrush out of the cup and put it in bathroom drawer. Now it puts water in drawer–and also toothpaste gets grungy in drawer. So how do others tackle this?
5. Passwords…how to keep them hidden, but accessible–but not on computer. This goes for organizing info about bank accounts, trusts, stocks, mutual funds, etc. This stuff is important, but if one keeps it in a file with the right name on it-it would be SO easy for someone to steal.
6. Paper items–notebook paper, computer paper, stationery–how to organize where it doesn’t get dirty, bent or messy?
7. Beauty/hair items. I have tons of this stuff and periodically cull through and put current faves in bathroom. Still, there are times when I need to use a different shampoo, a different foundation, nail polish, etc. Where to keep all the extras? How to do it attractively and relatively handy–now that would be good advice.

6. Itsy bitsy paper things–post-its with info for “later,” quotes I read, notes with book recommendations by a friend, notes with websites–STUFF for “someday”–how can I keep track of all that stuff without resorting to a drawer full of it, or hidden box with random bits that someday my family will find and think I am unorganized? Those itsy-bitsys make me think that NO MATTER all my other successes–I am still NEVER “caught up” on my work.

That’s what I’m looking for…maybe this stuff is already here–if so, I’ll find it. If not, please consider.

Wow. I agree that paper and toys have taken over my house. There are some great organizing accessories out there, but many are not affordable. It’d be great to see some ideas for organizing on a budget!

I will be helping my son convert his garage into an office.

We need the setting up and organizing tips on doing this.
