How to organise your wallet
September 26, 2007
This is how I organise my wallet. On the left I keep my cash/ debit cards – one is my personal bank account and the other is the business bank account.
The middle section has all my benefit cards from the stores.
On the right, my driver’s licence is in the see-through sleeve. And then my 3 credit cards, each for a different purpose – one for groceries, one for any other household stuff that’s not groceries and one for general spending. You can see I have a pen clipped there too – it fits perfectly.
Then the pockets…
The cash goes in the first one.
Any gift vouchers go in the zippered section.
And right at the back I keep my receipts until my weekly Budgeting Update day when they get removed.
The coins go in the zippered ouch at the back and my business cards go in the flap behind that. (If I get any other business cards while out, they go in my diary and then straight into Outlook).
Points to remember:
1. Each section should have its own purpose.
2. Clear out your wallet regularly (I only have a maximum of two errand days a week so a weekly clean-out is fine for me. If you run errands more than this, you might need a more frequent clean-out).[LG]Try this for organizing your purse![/LG]
3. Return items to their homes right after you use them.
How do you organise your wallet?
I had a large wallet that came with a purse and I liked it initially until it just became hard to zip. I found I had mostly cards to carry (credit/debit/store/insurance) so I just got 2 separate cases designed for cards only. I put all the ‘money’ cards in one and all the benefit cards in another. My cash goes into my check book. I have a compartment in my purse where change goes. It works for me, anyway. I love this site, btw!
I don’t carry coins in my purse, I put them in a sorter at home, so when I get them, I just put them in my pants pocket. Reciepts go in my back pocket w/the debit card. At the end of errand day, I put the debit card in wallet, & all reciepts are entered into quicken checkbook & filed or shredded as necessary.
For the life of me, I will never understand why anyone even has a wallet.
I would no sooner carry my credit cards and checkbook around than I would wear a sign that says “please pick my pocket.”
I carry only the cards I know I will need today, and leave the rest at home. I’ve spend too many hours replacing all my cards and ID when I’ve lost or had my bag stolen.
And I never, ever, carry my keys in my bag. Paranoid? We call that street smart where I live, which is New York City.
Lisa, as long as it works for you! That’s what I call organising according to your personality 🙂

You inspire me with your discipline!

LOL 🙂 I’m with you – NYC sounds just a tad worse than Jhb. Believe me, we are also crime-ridden here. But no-one walks anywhere so we feel okay with our wallets 🙂
great tips. i recently organized my wallet, and it feels great. but i had trouble with all my gift cards and loyaty cards. I just didnt put them in, I found this website, that organizes that aspect of our wallet. it’s called leveragecard.com. it’s pretty cool, now i can keep track of all my gift cards.
What brand is this wallet? Where did you get it?
