“If you handle it, handle it.”
By this I mean, if I pick something up, I should complete whatever task it requires. For example, when the mail comes in, I should open the envelopes, throw away/shred the junk, sort the rest, and put it into the bin on my desk for bill-pay. This instead of my old method, which was more like: bring in the mail, throw it on the counter, then wonder what happened to the bill 10 days later.
When I get into tougher projects, I just “handle” one thing at a time until the project is completed. It gives me satisfaction to know that things are getting done, even if they are just one small part of a much larger whole.

Don’t Borrow Time From Tomorrow-
the thought behind this is – do anything and everything you can today because tomorrow is already spoken for – or it will be when you get there-
I only keep the past month’s bills and receipts in paper – the next month, I either scan or shred. The scans get sorted by either year or concept (eg. furniture or electronics)

Best organization tip would be getting a binder with clear pockets to put take out menus.Separate the binder into secions(types of food, chinese,Italian, etc.)
Use the tools. File holders, cubby holes, and labels labels labels.
Lorena – that’s a good one!!! I think that can help me. Thanks for sharing 🙂
I don’t have a mantra exactly, but I do tape the show Hoarders. I seldom make it through an entire episode because I just get up and start cleaning. It’s awesome.
Mess Buster’s last blog post..More On Tangled Cords
First in, first out, no hoarding.
I try not to overstock on food stuff and let things expire because I have more than I can use by the expiration date.

“Use the technology”.
I search on tweets for my husband’s commuter train and know from other commuters immediately if it’s running late.
Google Calendar Facebook Apps- for all school stuff, like Picture Day and field trips, parent teacher conferences, half-days. Doctor’s appointments, library book return dates, etc. Can keep it private to friends but share it with my family.
I’ve Facebook Friended my local auto mechanic, neighborhood restaurants, and favorite retailers. I created a group list called “Local” and in one click I can view the news feed and see what deals are happening in my community.
Digital coupons- yay! Those free services also allow me to incorporate those savings and create a grocery list around them.
Organize It
Pack It
Stack It
My special OPS mantra. I love clear storage boxes for keeping things neat, protected and easy to find

Don”t use it , Then lose it. With this I mean if you haven’t used something for a while get rid of it by selling or donating it.

“Don’t use it? Throw it out!”
It’s much easier to stay organized if you don’t have a lot of useless clutter to deal with.
Keep like things organized in color coded bins or containers.

I take pretty boxes and attach velcro to the back of them and I fill them with my kids toys. You know the small things they’re always losing.. I also label the boxes,so that they know whats in it

Another for me is…
Don’t bring/buy anything into your home that you’re unable to pre-identify a home (space) for – where will it live?

Stay green, keep it paperless! (when dealing with office stuff)
Nothing in without something out. (when dealing with new toys, equipment, large items, clothing)
Save it or Lose it! (anytime I’m paring back-kitchen, bedroom, bath)
My mantras vary depending on what I’m doing. Sometimes they work, sometimes I find myself grunting them out as I strive to follow it.

Where would I look later?
When filing random pieces of paper, I stop and ask myself what folder I would check first if I wanted to find it. Seems obvious but it really helps. If I don’t come up with an answer I start a new file category.
