5 Steps to Organizing your Home Office

bunny-slippersThere are some great perks to working from home; bunny slippers, coffee at anytime, and TV. However, time management can be a real issue. (9 to 5 never went by so fast!). One of the best ways to manage time when working from home is to stay organized. Here are five steps to organize your home office!
1. Clear the Cables: Power cords and phone wires can make a room look disorganized even when everything else is in place, so clear the cords! You can use reusable Velcro straps or cable clips to keep them in place.
2. Get a Notice Board: No home office is completely organized without a decent notice board. A notice board is the perfect place for to-do lists, post-its, and a mini calendar.
3. Organize Using Trays: I suggest keeping three trays in the office. One for incoming business mail, one for outgoing mail, and the third for any miscellaneous documents you have to go through.
4. 5 Minute Clean-Up: The key to staying organized is maintenance. Take 5 minutes at the end of each work day and put everything back into its place. If you leave it for tomorrow, you may very well forget something.
5. Use Book Ends: If you are like me, there are always books on your desk, and nothing looks messier than a pile of strewn books. Use book ends to keep them organized. Better yet- use book ends that can double as mini shelves or pencil holders.

    Great article!
I finally cleaned my own home office desk and now that everything is organized I’m so much more productive and relaxed. I know exactly where everything is and what needs to be done. I posted before and after pictures on my blog. Just click on my name and link to it. I’m embarrassed to say that I filled my 64 gallon recycle bin twice with shredded paper from my desk alone. Some of the numerous piles were 12 inches high! It also took several days of putting in an hour or two sorting, shredding, filing or scanning.
But it’s been worth it. I can’t believe the difference of how I feel in here and how much more I accomplish. I actually like being in here again.
