Top 20 Uses For Toothpaste – Who Knew!
September 23, 2010
Toothpaste is for more than just cleaning teeth. Its amazing cleaning and polishing powers can help with everything from acne to piano keys! Read on for my top 20 uses for good old toothpaste:
1 – Clean silver and jewelry:
It will shine up the silver and take off tarnish as well. Toothpaste can also be used on copper and gold as well. Be sure to use a soft cloth so that only the gentle abrasive in the toothpaste is at work. Diamonds can also be shined up with a toothbrush and some toothpaste. Rinse them off with cold water and watch them shine.
2 – Fill holes:
Small holes in a plaster wall can be filled with a dab of toothpaste. Squeeze a bit out of the tube and press it into the hole. Let it dry for about twenty minutes. Sand it down and paint. No need to buy the patch from the hardware store.
3 – Hang posters:
Hang up lightweight posters with a couple dabs of toothpaste. Put a dime-sized dab of toothpaste in each corner of the poster and press it firm into the wall. When it is time to take it down, simply wipe away the dry paste. No holes to fill, almost no mess to clean. However, avoid using it for collector posters. It can damage the ink over time.
4 – Repair and clean CD’s:
Clean CDs and DVDs with a bit of toothpaste. Remove surface scratches and smudges by gently pulling outward from the center of the disk. The abrasives in the toothpaste will remove the uppermost layer of the disk leaving the content unharmed. Unless the disk is scratched all the way through it should play like new.
5 – Acne remedy:
Dry out wicked acne with a bit of toothpaste. When an oily patch, a blemish, or a pimple sprouts up, dab a bit of toothpaste on it. The paste will dry out the blemish overnight. The toothpaste dehydrates the pimple and absorbs the oil. This pimple-clearing remedy works best on spots that have come to a head. WARNING: This remedy may be irritating to sensitive skin. Try it on a small area of skin first.
6 – Remove crayon marks:
Squirt a small dab on non-gel toothpaste on the wall where the mark is. Rub gently with a soft cloth, and then rinse with warm water.
7 – Deodorizer:
Can’t get garlic or onion odor or other strong smells off your hands? Wash them with a blob of toothpaste. Well-used baby bottles inevitably pick up a sour-milk smell. Just put some on your bottle brush and scrub away. Make sure you rinse off the toothpaste thoroughly.
8 – Clean and buff shoes:
Clean rubber soles by rubbing scuff marks with an old toothbrush and non-gel toothpaste. A little toothpaste does an amazing job of removing scuffs from leather shoes, too. Rub it on, buff it off, let it dry, and the shoes will shine like new.
9 – Prevent Fogged Goggles:
Nothing is more frustrating (and sometimes dangerous) than fogged goggles. Prevent the problem by coating the goggles with toothpaste and then wiping them off.
10 – Removes stain from cloth or carpet:
To take out all kinds of stain like ink or lipstick, squeeze some on the spot, scrub, rinse and let dry.
11 – Placate burns:
Gently rub on minor burns. It helps to relieve the sting.
12 – Relieves insect bites:
Spread a little over bothersome insect bites to soothe and relieve the itch.
13 – Baby beautifier:
This one sounds strange, but toothpaste keeps girl babies’ bows in their hair. If they don’t have much hair this is particularly useful. It just washes out!
14 – Clean your nails:
Teeth and nails are made of the same material. To clean your nails, squeeze some a nail brush, wet your nails and brush them thoroughly.
15 – Tough bathroom stains:
Use it to clean shower doors and rings around the bath tub and sink. It has an abrasive, but it’s gentle on porcelain finishes.
16 – Remove scratches on glass and crystal:
Dab some on scratched glassware or a scratched watch crystal and buff out with a soft cloth.
17 – Clean piano keys:
A dab of toothpaste, a soft cloth and some rubbing will usually clean piano keys and turn them white again.
18 – Remove beach tar:
Getting that black beach tar on your feet can be a pain, but it is easy enough to remove. Just rub it with some non-gel toothpaste and rinse.
19 – Cleans clothes iron:
The mild abrasive in non-gel toothpaste is just the ticket for scrubbing the gunk off the bottom plate of your clothes iron. Apply the toothpaste to the cool iron, scrub with a cloth, then wipe clean with a damp cloth.
20 – Remove water marks from furniture:To get rid of watermark rings left by sweating beverages, gently rub some non-gel toothpaste on the wood with a soft cloth.[LG]Get the most from your toothpaste with this![/LG]
