3 Easy Steps to Organizing Your Jewelry

Today’s blog was inspired by my daughter. She got her ears pierced this weekend, and it made me realize that we will soon need a system to organize her jewelry. If you are one of the many people whose necklaces are tangled and earrings are missing, then keep reading to find out how to organize your jewelry in three easy steps:

1. Sort – The first step is to sort through all of your jewelry. Identify any pieces that you no longer love. Decide whether you will give them to a friend or family member, donate them, or sell them. If you discover that some of your favorites are damaged or broken, group them together and take them to the jewelry store to get repaired. Take your remaining pieces and group them together based on how you think about them or look for them. For example, do you like to keep sets in one spot or would you rather keep all of your necklaces together, all your bracelets together, and so on? Maybe you prefer to keep your costume jewelry separate from your good pieces. There is no right or wrong answer to this question.

2. Identify a Location – Where do you want to store your jewelry? On top of your dresser? In your drawers? In your closet? The answer to this question will determine what type of jewelry organizers you should use. If you are short on dresser top space, consider storing your jewelry in a drawer. If you have a walk in closet, this can be a great spot for your jewelry.

3. Containerize – Now that you have your jewelry grouped so that it makes sense to you and you know where you are going to store it, it is time to choose the best organization system for your jewelry. There are so many great options to choose from. If you are storing it on your dresser top, consider a more decorative organizer. For drawer storage, there are many great tray options. One of the best ways to prevent your chains from getting tangled is to hang them. Most jewelry organizers have separate sections for rings, earrings, and necklaces. Review your quantities of each of these categories to choose an organizer(s) with sufficient space for your collection.
